What happens if the newest revolutionary drug was you?

Raleigh has the ability to sense disease in other people, but she is also suffering from an unexplained illness herself. Raleigh soon gives up hope after countless doctor’s visits and still no cure. Then she meets a man who tells her that her problems are linked. Her abilities are caused by a drug called Lucidin, which makes her very rare, and very sought after.

Rho has the same drug flowing through his veins. Surrounded by addicts, dealers and scientists, he does everything he can to stay afloat – but it’s hard to know who to trust. As Rho and Raleigh are flung together, they must navigate the dangerous world of Lucidin, and Raleigh must decide where her allegiance lies.

Hello and welcome to the blog tour for The Designed, run by the lovely Xpresso Book tours! This book has a really interesting premise, and is fantastically written. As soon as you read the introductory chapters you’re hooked, and desperate to know more. I really liked Rho, he is kept a bit of a mystery in the story – we’re never entirely sure what he’s running from – but he’s a very likeable character. The story focuses more on Raleigh, but it would be interesting to see how Rho’s story develops in the future books in the series. The two characters work very well together, and I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops. Raleigh is strong and clear headed, she makes for a very interesting character to read about.

There is plenty of tension and stuff going on in The Designed, it keeps building up and building up to a crazy cliffhanger – which is all I will say about it. It’s an exciting read that will definitely leave you hungry for more. There’s also lots of science and medical stuff thrown in, which makes the book feel more realistic, and the idea of Lucidin being possible feels a lot more authentic.

The book does have shifts in point of view between Rho and Raeleigh, and I know for some people that can be very disorienting. I however liked the shifts, but would have liked to know more about Rho’s background. The Designed is interesting start to a very promising series, and I’m sure it will have you hooked from the outset.

  1. Great review, Nicole! This sounds like a really fun and intense read. I secretly love cliffhangers, too. I find they’re the most memorable endings even though in the moment I want to throw my book in fire! haha!
